Use of Subtotal & Sum Formula in MS-Excel

 Why use "SUBTOTAL” formula in excel instead of "SUM"

1. "SUM" Include hidden values "SUBTOTAL" does not includes hidden values.

2. "SUM" does not works with filters applied. "Subtotal" will show you total of filtered values.

3.With "SUM" formula in excel you can only sum the figures in Rows and in Columns, with "SUBTOTAL" formula  you can get Average, Count, Max, Min, CountA, product Etc.

4. "SUM" Always gives you static  result total regardless visibility not good if cell are applied filtered or grand total in between.

5. "SUBTOTAL" can get you grand totals as it ignores subtotals in between the range. 

For sum of column in excel use formula "=Subtotal(9,sum range)

For average of column in excel use formula "=Subtotal(1,sum range)
